Tench (What else !)

Post by Unholymoondog on Sun Mar 30, 2008 6:39 pm

Well after weeks of abysmal weather, things appear to be on the up, who would have thought it after last night.

I've checked the five day forecast and after a bit of rain on Monday and Tuesday the remainder of the week appears to be dry, we shall see. Double figure temperatures, some sun and light winds, it's about flippin time sunny

So I shall be starting my Tench season properly come Wednesday, I can't wait, I've been preparing my gear and I'm all set. I really want to break my PB this year and I'll be out with all guns blazing determined to do it fishing I'm usually not driven by targets and goals, but this year I'm on a mission. fishing

I am almost sure that others will follow in wishing Alastair good fortune in his quest for a new PB tench. I had a look at Island Pond yesterday after it's alterations and a chap was float fishing for tench (best way) and had 3 around 4lb in 2 hours, one whilst we were there so they are on the move Alastair - Good luck. fishing

I can't wait Cool Cool Cool I'm off tomorrow morning and I've packed light so roaming should not be too much of a problem. If anyone want to come and have a chat I'll probably be on Dores Very Happy

My PB is a male fish of 7lb and 5 oz, which is quite a fish for a male. My PB female is only 7lb 3oz and I would really like to get higher with both.

The females can get to roughly twice the weight of the males and rumor has it that if there is a 7lb male in the pond then there should be a 14lb female. However I'm not convinced with this theory.

My male fish is just outside the top twenty male Tench in the country and I'm proud of it.

So I'm out again tomorrow, while the weather is good. I'm not going to be stubborn and remain on the same spot tomorrow. If I'm not catching within 2-3 hours I'm moving. I'm determined to find the fish.

I'll be wearing sunblock tomorrow as I was a bit stupid on Wed and I got burnt. Or did I start melting ?????

Go get 'em mate! That's all I have to say! This time of the year ty a nice maggot feeder and pile in the wrigglies! Chickpeas are also a top bait for the spring, I've found that tench cant get enough of them!

Well done on the top 20 tench as well mate, you keep on the way you're going and you'll soon be holding a record I'm sure of it!

Well if anyone on here wants some prolific tench action, if they're ever in the area (london) , I'll invite you along to the glade, we have tench to over 11lbs in there! Martin for one knows that it's a strange lake which can prove very challenging, but hit the tench and you'll be in for a good day!

Hi Unholy - you have probably seen this pic before but its my favourite and brings back memories of a cracking morning session I had on Linhay a couple of years ago. 14 fish in one morning topped by a pb of 9lb 2oz - no photo sadly but the second best was the fish in the pic 8lb 2oz and immaculate. Had 3 others over 7lb. Sadly never been able to come anywhere near this since. Will keep trying - perhaps we can meet up for a joint session this Summer.

Can't get the whole pic to appear on my pc sadly - also appears in the Gallery at www.newtonfishing.com
