There will be some work going on to re-instate the link between Dores Pond and Island Pond on November 18th and 19th. This will help in a number of ways:

1. The water levels in these ponds should become much more stable

2. The algal blooms experienced in the summer should be reduced/stopped by circulating water

3. Some reduction in weed growth may result due to increased water movement.

The Environment Agency support this work and we hope all Club members will benefit in the long term. Please ...

I thought that I'd try and get a bit of discussion going on this section of the forum so I thought I'd start a debate on the type of rifle used for hunting.

As I understand it the springer and CO2 rifles are mainly used for short range ratting and short range hunting whilst the PCP (Pre-Charged Pnuematic) rifles tend to be used for more general hunting such as longer range rabbits, squirrels and pidgeons.

We then have the debate on .22 or .177 Again the two types of hunting seem split ...

Hi NT&GC fishing forum.

I am the skipper who runs 'Kelly's Hero' a Lochin 33' out of Brixham. I was lucky enough to have on board Paul and his follows from Portishead a few weeks ago and judging from the report on this forum everyone else enjoyed the day as much did I.

Went out on Tuesday 27th again to some nearby wrecks looking for the last of the Bass which appear to be staying with us still!

Manged to find a couple of Bass best being 7 lbs caught by 14 year old Chris Meah from Paignton ...

At NT&GC we have decided to start the 'Ave A Go League for anglers that want to do a bit of competitive fishing without the high costs associated with today's modern match scene. The best way to improve your coarse fishing is to fish with other anglers and to fish competitively as this focuses your attention on both your fishing and others around you. The 'Ave A Go League is designed to be affordable, competitive but in a very friendly way and open and affordable to all anglers.

Apologies for the lack of updates recently but I have been on holiday and work has been very busy. At the AGM last week a new Chairman, Ian Powell, and Secretary, Ian Donaldson, were elected. Both have promised to do their best for the Club and its members and will be working with the rest of the Committee to keep the Club and its waters at the 'top of the tree' regionally and nationally.

I intend to have a summary of what went on at the AGM up on this site before work on ...

Hi all

I'm Paul skipper of the charter boat Castaway based at Portishead and fishing the Bristol Channel.

Bad news is I have sold my boat !!!!!!

Good news is I have a new Evolution 30 being built (not quick enough)as I write this, Castaway was a Evolution 33 and was a fine vessel cruising at around 16 knots but quite expensive to run the Catapillar 420 hp engine.Although the Evo 30 is 3 feet shorter than the 33 there is more deck area due to the cabin being moved forward and made smaller, ...

We have tidied the area up (see home page of www.newtontackleandgun.co.uk) and placed a great deal of hunting accessories into stock. The clothing range is ideal for both hunters and anglers and the new wellies from Jack Pyke are brilliant. latest fishing expedition.

Early Saturday morning we left Dartmouth with my mate Mark. (I've been nagging him to take us out for ages as we've not been on his new boat).

We hung a left at the mouth of the Dart for a bit of bass fishing. The weather was clear but the tide wasn't favourable so after a few drifts with no luck we decided to try a bit of wreck fishing.

There was a big swell, not helped by a constant and increasing Westerly wind so it was a bit choppy as well.

By carp lakes I means lakes holding double figure carp, carp that you would use carp rods and tactics to catch. I thought of Dores Pond, Abbrook Pond, Creedy Lakes, Stafford Moor and maybe Goodiford Mill which if this is all we have is pretty poor and makes carp fishing a bit of a problem in the Devon area. However on thinking back to conversations with ...

Apologies for the delay - I am very frustrated as I can't do a single thing from here. Maybe I will go fishing to de-stress.

The weather for the GMBU sponsored carp match at Spring ponds could not have been better, warm and sunny on both days. We had a fantastic turnout of fifteen junior anglers, who were all looking forward to the two day event.

Day one got off to a flying start with JJ lock, hooking into a fish only 30 seconds after the “All in” and was a good sign of the excellent days fishing ahead. The fish kept coming throughout the day and only a few anglers struggled to catch.

The winner on day ...

After last nights discussion of red lines and baits, I've found a few articles on what fish see. They are pretty varied however what is interesting is the fact that they may be able to see more of the colour spectrum than we can !!!

Opinions please ? Any experts on the subject ?

1 A big thankyou to all who helped make the Open Day such a success. In total over 225 individual coaching sessions took place. Many visitors were full of praise for the Junior members who ran ‘buddy angler’ sessions to go alongside the formal coaching sessions. The follow on sessions on Tuesday evenings have proved a great success with an average of 35 visitors per session and several new members joining the club. Special thanks to Paul ...
