New species and pb
Drove down to the South Hams to try for another Bass on my favourite mark, glorious weather, no work, decent tides but not too optimistic because everytime I have caught before it has been wet and miserable. Been using the bad weather as a grockle suppressant but figured today being outside the school holidays things wouldn't be too bad.
Anyway got there set up the rod and Viking Herring lure waded in and started chucking out. To cut a long story short didn't get a sniff until on one retrieve I felt a fluttering (feel everything with braid it seems). Intrigued to see I had a small brown fish on which was hooked under its mouth. On closer inspection I was pretty shocked to see it was a ..................................................................................................................................................................wait for it.......................................................................................................................................................weever weever fish
complete with spines and venom sacs below. Having trod on one in North Cornwall a couple of years ago I didn't take any risks and put my filleting glove on wrapped in a towel and chucked it back - I know I am a wimp. Imagine the cheek the little so and so as soon as he went back he buried himself in the sand with his spines protruding just in front of me. Cheeky or what? Anyway I fished on but nowt else happened except I enjoyed the scenery and fine weather and improved my casting a little. I keep trying to console myself by saying I posted a new pb but it doesn't cut much ice with the missus who expects me to catch everytime I go out now - if only eh?
Soon as I put it back I thought I should have taken a picture - next time folks

Re: New species and pb
nasty little beggers aren't they
I started using braid this year, great for boat fishing, improved my catch rate no end
mixed results from the shore, as you say you feel every twitch but it snaps easily if it gets snagged. I'll stick with it though and just avoid using it over rough ground.
