Biggest Angling Innovations
What are the best fishing innovations, that have come along over the years ? What do you have in your arsenal that you could not do without ? Is there any particular product that stands out ?
I'll get things started ............
Carbon
Carbon rods have changed the face of angling.
Sensas Easy Loop I can't live without this tool. Great for everyone.
The hair rig Fantastic method developed for Carpers, great for everyone.
I could keep going ( and probably will

Re: Biggest Angling Innovations
Not trying to blow my own trumpet in any way but the barrow is one thing that i think will help my fishing a lot. I know this is ment to be for what we have that helps already but i would have one if some wally hadnt had sold it (coff dad coff
) . Another reason for wanting one is because there are three of us and that means a lot of bait to carry at once so we could be with a barrow just for the bait bag
. I would also like to mention the disgorger. its been around for a while but its one thing i cant live with out because of all the ruddy PERCH that manage to swallow the hook down to there butt in the time it takes for the float to go down. A great little tool that every angler most of used at sometime

Re: Biggest Angling Innovations
For me one of the useful innovations I found on returning to angling is the rod pod as so many fisheries do not have banks conducive to bank sticks.
On the sea fishing front I think the beach buddy is a must as you are open to the elements on the beach and this system is quick to put up and acts as a base camp keeping your bait and tackle clean.
One thing that does puzzle me is the thermos
How does it know what to keep hot and what to keep cold

Chemically sharpened hooks
The humble ball bearing, although no one is happy with one, it has to be a min of 14 these days
As Lamby said the plastic disgorger, remember we used to use a bit of metal with a V in it
Stotz
Shotting pole rigs has never been easier.
I wish someone would develop stalking crutches, the fish hear me coming a mile away, have a laugh amongst themselves and swim off
Evolution of the Tench
You seriously didn't think that I was going to do a post without the word Tench did you ?

Re: Biggest Angling Innovations
perhaps the best thing to come out in fishing circles imo is the baitrunner, the amount of rods I have had to go swimming for before the days of these reels you would'nt believe

Anyone else have an item that they could not do without? Tell us the things that have helped with your fishing.
There have been so many innovations in angling over the years that has enhanced our sport. Thanks to those that replied, it appears that everyone else would be still happy using a 6' glass rod and intrepid reel

Re: Biggest Angling Innovations
PVA is a great invention for angling. No more bright green swimfeeders anouncing your presence to the fish. The bags are a pain so I use mesh and I love the concept of kord keeping 3 or 4 boilies / pellets in line with the kord dissolving leaving tasy morsells for the fish leading to your hook bait, sneaky

Re: Biggest Angling Innovations
I agree PVA mesh is abfab
I use it regularly. I prefer to use it rather than a swim feeder, as I know with confidence that my hook bait is smack bang in the middle of the free offerings. The pull back method with a swim feeder is a bit hit and miss.

Re: Biggest Angling Innovations

) and caught a few fish as well. If im wrong please tell me

Re: Biggest Angling Innovations
Polarised glasses are a great help
,they take the glare off the water & help to look into the water so you can see all the lovely fish you ain't going to catch.

Excellent call DJ
I couldn't be without my polarised shades
, it's unbelievable how far you can see through the water with the glare gone.

Re: Biggest Angling Innovations
Just remember though, that the brain of the angler is the one piece of tackle that you can't do without! Recent developments in technology have vastly increased the catch rate of us anglers and developed new ways of targeting certain species and that's brilliant. However, new discoveries of fish feeding patterns and ever developing evolution of the angling sport in general mean that the anglers themselves are always clued up on new techniques and ways of catching the fish.
New technological developments in angling in general may help make the sport more comfortable, but nevertheless, they may not always make it easier. Knowledge of water and fish characteristics are the best weapons in the anglers armoury and this is why I chose the anglers brain as the best technological advance in fishing

Re: Biggest Angling Innovations
Do these hook thingies mean that you don't have to tie the maggots onto the end of the line anymore
