A fight to remember

Post by pisces on Thu Sep 17, 2009 5:55 pm

I have a carbon pole thats about 15 yrs old. It's only 5mtrs and really thin so I don't use it much. It's only seen silvers and an eel.
I went to the pond on Tuesday to find it really windy. It was impossible to fish a waggler and I didn't have a surfboard so I dusted off the pole.
Fishing from the third swim along the road side of the pond with corn just 6ft out from the plants on the left. I fed little and often, after about 2hrs I had a really feeble bite and when I struck it and it took off I realised it was a nice fish.
My No8 elastic (which Martin managed to squeeze down the top section, cheers mate) was really taking a streching and all I could do was hold on and pray that I didn't get smashed up.
As I took off a couple of sections it went for the plants near the bank so I decided to put them back on and just hold on.
After about 10 mins a really pissed off common carp surfaced and I managed to slip the net under her.
What a stunner, just shy of 7lbs.
I thanked her for a fantastic fight and slipped her back into the pond. What a day.

I might be in for a bigger pole with stronger elastic soon M!

Nice one - its amazing how much stretch some of these pole elastics take. Real heart in the mouth stuff.
